Mr. Robot is returning for its third season in October on the USA network, and considering the major cliffhanger at the end of last season, anticipation for any new information is running high. The first peek at the new season was just released via Twitter, and you know it’s legit because it doesn’t make a single lick of sense.

Do you have the time?

The 15 second trailer features close up shots of only four of the show’s main characters—Darlene (Carly Chaikin), Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), Angela (Portia Doubleday), and Elliot (Rami Malek)—spliced between shots of clocks. The whole thing is set to the slightly ominous, regular ticking of a clock. The shots also have that classic Sam Esmail touch: ample amount of negative space, darkly lit rooms, and characters who look like they’re just on the edge of confused and about to become terrified for their lives, but the audience doesn’t understand why just yet. Hell, even the season 3 release date is cryptic. October is a long month, buddy, can we get a date or something?

Elliot spent the majority of the previous season in jail before escaping towards the very end—could this time motif be suggesting something about the next season? Is it time for Elliot to face his crimes? Is time running out for Darlene and Angela, who have repeatedly put their own lives and careers on the line for Elliot? Will Mr. Robot help Elliot hack into a clock this season? Whatever it means, that menacing ticking clock fits neatly into the show's paranoid and claustrophobic atmosphere, so we can certainly expect a lot more of that.

Honestly, your guess is as good as mine, but this lack of information and sinister mood is part of what makes this show so great, so we're not complaining.
