Kylie Cosmetics Will Be a Billion-Dollar Company by 2022

Others in the cosmetics world have taken decades to hit the billion-dollar mark.

Whenever I feel myself slipping into a potentially incurable existential crisis, I like to read heartwarming stories about unimaginable wealth. There's just something comforting about the phrase "billion-dollar company" that other methods of coping can't give me. So if you're in need of a pick-me-up, here's an enlightening little detail about Kylie Cosmetics that's sure to launch you into a tremendous mood: the company is well on its way to becoming a—here's that phrase again!—billion-dollar company.

Kris Jenner revealed to Women's Wear Daily this month that Kylie Cosmetics, in a mere 18 months, has amassed $420 million in retail sales. According to the report, Kris offered documentation to confirm the amount.

Kylie Jenner kicked off the money-stacking endeavor in November 2015 with a limited run of Kylie Lip Kits. Since the second full drop didn't happen until February 2016, the Jenners "don't count" that three-month period due to the absence of product.

Kylie Cosmetics is currently predicted to end 2017 with a 25 percent sales increase, meaning a likely 12-month haul of $386 million. By WWD's estimates, that means Kylie Cosmetics may very well be a billion fucking dollars strong by 2022. Just for the fun of comparison and existentialism and word count and whatnot, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics took 25 years to hit the billion-dollar line. Lancôme hit a billion in 2015 after 80 years.

As for the next trend in makeup, Kylie has made a prediction: velvet. "Matte lipstick will always be one of my favorites, but I see customers moving more toward my velvet lipsticks," she said Wednesday.
