Sega’s retro video games will soon be available on your smartphone.

On Wednesday, the gaming company officially announced the launch of Sega Forever, a collection of old-school favorites available for iOS and Android. The best part of the new service? Every game can be played for free.

Sega Forever will kick off this week with a batch of Mega Drive and Genesis games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Phantasy Star 2, Kid Chameleon, and Comix Zone. According to Engadget, the company will add new titles to the service every two weeks, with a mix of emulations and ported games from different console generations (here’s hoping the next wave shows some love to Dreamcast). It sounds pretty amazing considering you won’t have to pay a dime; however, there is a catch. The free video games will be supported by advertisements. Those who would like to upgrade to an ad-free game will have to cough up $2.

Mike Evans, Sega’s chief marketing officer and development lead on Sega Forever, said there are big plans for the future. He told The Verge that the service could become the “Netflix of retro gaming” and could eventually roll out to other devices.

“We could take it to Xbox Live Arcade or PSN as well,” he said. “The content is evergreen in that sense. Mobile is a great place to start because the platform is ubiquitous.”
