While there are plenty of good movies to stream on Netflix right now, we all know you're not paying your $7.99 to $11.99 per month (or using your ex-girlfriend's cousin's boss's password) to stream Trainspottingfor the 100th time. It's all about the Netflix Originals, and they know it, based on a new announcement.

The company released its third quarter earnings report on Monday. Right at the top, Netflix thanks its new original series Stranger Things and the second season of Narcos for helping the company make more money than ever before. Netflix brought in $2.15 billion in the third quarter—that's a whopping 36 percent jump from the third quarter of 2015.

The company also signed up 3.6 million new subscriber accounts, which The Verge reports is over a million more subscribers than the company had expected to add.

The Los Angeles Times reports that when the news broke of Netflix's unprecedented success, the company's stock skyrocketed in after-hours trading. The stock went up by nearly $20 per share to a high of $119.67 after the markets closed Monday, though it had dropped some by later Monday evening.

Of course, the third quarter isn't even counting recently-released hits like the Netflix original Marvel's Luke Cage, which is not only critically acclaimed, but is also getting a lot of viewers.

Unfortunately, all that success probably isn't going to help your subscription costs any. There's talk that you may have to begin paying taxes on your streaming subscriptions as the government looks for a way to make up the tax hole that cord-cutters are creating when they get rid of cable. Netflix's growth has basically been mirroring cable's decline for a while now.
