YouTube is stepping up its original series game, giving the greenlight to a new sci-fi thriller from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dany Garcia's Seven Bucks Productions. The tentatively titled Lifeline was confirmed Monday for an eight-episode debut season, Deadlinereported.

Lifeline takes place in the "not-too-distant future" and centers on a dude named Charlie Hooks, the top performer at a life insurance company. Of course, this isn't just some regular life insurance company. This team is able to leap 33 days into the future to stop the accidental deaths of its clients, presumably a handy tool for an insurance agency. Johnson is not currently attached to star.

Sam Gorski and Niki Pueringer, the co-founders of Corridor Digital, are set to direct the first batch of episodes slated to premiere on YouTube Red at some point next year. If you've been paying any kind of attention whatsoever, you'll recognize the Corridor name from last week's internet-uniting Grand Theft Auto V live-action short that brought Trevor Philips himself to life by enlisting confirmed legend Steven Ogg.

Johnson and Garcia's Seven Bucks Productions has been consistently filling out its roster of hit projects in recent months. In addition to currently-in-production presumed blockbusters like Baywatch and Jumanji, the Seven Bucks stamp can also be found on HBO's Ballers, USA's Muscle Beach, and the forthcoming San Andreas sequel. "[Johnson] is a global super star, and while you may not think of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as a big YouTube star, he has certainly become one in a few short months," Susanne Daniels, YouTube's Global Head of Content, said Monday. "We are thrilled to have him driving this very ambitious series forward."
