Since retiring his magic wand once and for all when Warner Brothers’ juggernaut Harry Potter franchise finally came to an end in 2011, Daniel Radcliffe has carefully crafted one of the most diverse and surprising careers in Hollywood.

His latest role, in which Radcliffe is slated to play a drug-smuggling pilot, is just another example of the 27-year-old’s unrelenting quest to shed his child star skin. The film is called Beast of Burden, and it will follow Radcliffe’s Sean Haggerty, an outlaw who must navigate his way through the highly combustible world of international drug smuggling, according to The Hollywood ReporterHe’s on his last trip, smuggling 55 pounds of pure cocaine across the border, when things suddenly come to a head. Swedish director Jesper Ganslandt will finally make his English language debut after his film Mission: Blacklist was shelved when Robert Pattison dropped out back in 2014. The script comes courtesy of Adam Hoelzel.

Unlike many of his peers, Radcliffe is in the enviable position of never having to work for a pay check again. Instead, he’s able to go swimming in pools filled with Harry Potter money, while making choices based on his love of the material without worrying about the size of his bank account. "I think I get an undeserved amount of credit playing diverse things because people saw me playing one role for a long time," he said recently. "Really, it’s just what most actors want; as varied a career as possible. I’m just lucky enough to be in a position where I can do that."

Expect Beast of Burden in theaters some time next year.
