Last night’s Emmy’s saw Game of Thrones win big time, the seminal Battle of Bastards episode picked up seven awards alone. It’s fair to say that if you’re Goerge R.R. Martin life’s pretty good right now, your books alone have turned out to be one of the best things on TV ever and it was at last night's star-studded event that GRRM teased a potential Game of Thrones prequel
Speaking to Deadline Martin said "I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more".
While that is good news—Martin's extensive world of Westeros certainly has a lot of material that can make a boatload of worthwhile prequels—there’s just one problem… those last two books! The wait to for the fifth and six books of A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIF), which GoT is based on, has played out longer than expected, to the point that both fans of the show and the books are scared he’s going to die before he finishes it.
The saving grace is that he does acknowledge that he has to bring the ASOIF saga to an end, explaining that: "At the moment we still have this show to finish, and I still have two books to finish so that's all speculation".
So there you go, he knows he’s got two more books to finish off and he knows that we know. When he’s doing to do finish them and release it is an entirely different matter all together.
Any time now George...
