Jeff Goldlbum is here to deliver more Goldblum in the latest Independence Day: Resurgence TV spot, meaning these particular aliens probably don't stand a chance. However, as Brent Spiner astutely explains within the first few seconds of this frustratingly brief teaser, these otherworldly visitors are too busy "celebrating" the imminent end of mankind to bother with Goldblum-isms.

So what exactly is causing the alien-human galactic feud to start brewing again, a full 20 years after the original showdown? For that, we turn to the film's official synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Despite that summary's distinct lack of Goldblum, Jeff will indeed be quite present in the sequel to the quintessential American blockbuster alongside Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Liam Hemsworth, Vivica A. Fox, and—as previously confirmed—absolutely zero Will Smith.

"The trailer looks really cool," Smith toldYahoo Movies back in January. However, the Suicide Squad star revealed, peeping the sequel to the movie that helped launch him into the Hollywood stratosphere may prove difficult: "I'm going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out. It was terrible when I found out my character died."

No pressure, Jeff Goldblum. The fate of humanity is now in your hands.
