Leonardo DiCaprio received another high honor for his work in The Revenant on Thursday, showing off his second Oscar for the bear-battling Alejandro G. Iñárritu epic on the 'gram alongside another pitch-perfect acceptance speech. Dubbed the "Siberian Oscar" by Mashable, the latest display piece for DiCaprio's presumably amazing house was made by a group of 144 dedicated Russian fans from the city of Yakutsk.
"As they wrote in their letter, Yakutia is home to the coldest inhabited place not only in Russia, but also on Earth—and the region is extremely vulnerable to climate change," DiCaprio wrote after thanking the good people of Yakutia. "Rising temperatures pose a major threat to its people, their way of life and their natural habitat." Much to the very predictable chagrin of Stacey Dash, DiCaprio made a similarly impassioned plea for climate change solutions during his actual Oscar acceptance speech.
Instead of the traditional sword, this fan-made Oscar includes a three-legged goblet described by Tatyana Yegorova as a symbol of "peace and expressing the people's love for the actor." Yegorova, according to a TASS report quoted by Mashable, was inspired to put the tribute together after seeing The Revenant. The one-of-a-kind piece, which actually looks way cooler than the usual Oscar, was made from melted down jewelry donated by the fans.
