John Boyega Surprised a Seriously Ill 5 Year Old Boy in Hospital and Taught Him How to Use a Lightsaber

Using the Force for good.

With great power comes great responsibility. Actually, that’s the wrong franchise, but it’s kind of true of what happens when you get cast in a Star Wars movie from out of (mostly) nowhere. Sure you get to be a massive famous movie star, but you also become a role model, and kids look up to you.

And John Boyega is definitely using his powers for good. Previously he went around surprising fans at screenings of The Force Awakens. This weekend he went one better, visiting a seriously ill young fan in hospital. 5 year old Daniel Bell is currently suffering form a brain tumour, and Boyega went to The Royal Hospital London to surprise him, and also taught him how to use a lightsaber.

Boyega said: “When I heard about Daniel's wish to meet Finn, I jumped at the chance to make it come true. It was fantastic to be a part of his very special wish with [charity] Rays of Sunshine. It was also great to meet the children at The Royal London Hospital and be a part of something so positive.”

Daniel’s mum Rosalind was very thankful for Boyega’s visit. “To see Daniel smile like that without a care in the world after everything he's been through, knowing how much time and effort Rays of Sunshine have put in to his wish and that John Boyega gave his time to make it come true, is priceless,” she said. “These things can't be bought and really do mean the world.”
