EA Sports Have Apologised to a Muslim UFC Fighter After They Gave Him a Christian Victory Pose

Somebody dropped the ball.

EA Sports UFC 2 dropped recently, and pretty everyone says the game is pretty sick. It’s been getting great reviews from the games press and MMA fans alike.

One person who isn’t a fan though is Russian UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov. As well as being the #3 ranked contender in the UFC lightweight division, he also happens to be a Muslim. However, when you win a fight playing as Nurmagomedov, one of his victory animations is gesturing in the shape of a cross. Which of course, is a Christian thing.

Of course, this wasn’t deliberate or anything. It’s just a standard animation that they give to most characters in the game, and Nurmagomedov isn’t a megafamous superstar like Connor McGregor or Ronda Rousey who get their own personal taunts. It’s like how a random Norwich City defender will just do a standard celebration if they score in FIFA. It’s not malicious or anything, but it’s still pretty embarassng.

Nurmagomedov called them out, and posted a clip on Instagram.

I'm a MUSLIM and not Baptized. Please @EASPORTSUFC edit my after fight celebration. I have a lot of Muslim fans and you have to respect it.

EA Sports slid into his DMs to apologise.

EA have acknowledged their mistake, and Nurmagomedov says he doesn't hold a grudge. Good to see things worked out in the end.
