Danny Dyer is actually a much better actor than people give him credit for, but still, there’s a certain type of thing you expect from him. Being a drag queen is not that thing.

The Eastenders and Football Factory star gets a frock and lipstick on in the new video from the track “Nebraska’ by singer-songwriter Lucy Rose. The video starts with a frustrated Dyer sitting in his car, before pulling together the courage to walk into a Soho drag bar. He then sits down in a dressing room and gets ready, then finally heads out on stage in all his glory (he doesn’t shave off his beard though). The final shots see his strutting across Piccadilly with that trademark Danny Dyer swagger, with high heels in hand.

While it’s fun to make fun of Danny Dyer wearing a dress, there is actually a positive message about being yourself in the video. Dyer told The Independent:

I was honoured to be asked by the maestro that is Lucy Rose to be part of her video. When I got the treatment through I was overwhelmed. I think it's such a moving piece of work. I'm beyond proud to be part of it, I've always believed that people should be who they wanna be, regardless of race or gender. Freedom of expression is so important - I really hope that this video gets the recognition it deserves.
