What happens when you invite a priestess of the Lord of Light who gave birth to a creepy, murderous shadow creature to your baby shower? NBC endeavored to find out in a funny segment for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Host Seth Meyers invited Game of Thrones’ Melisandre to his baby shower because he either never saw an episode of the popular HBO series or he just loves to watch the world burn.
While the other women dished out inspirational quotes on motherhood, the Red Woman took a darker approach, telling the mom-to-be, "Clutch your child close to your breast, woman, for the night is dark and full of terrors." Things would only get more awkward when she denied the existence of heaven and declared hell the thing we’re living in now. Well, that’s partially true if you’re a feminist and you use the internet.
Despite her awkward social cues, Melisandre’s presence wasn’t all bad. The auburn-haired sorceress did get them a pretty cool gift—a rattle knife so the baby can entertain and defend itself at night. It didn’t go over well with the other guests but I’m pretty sure this is the sort of thing hardcore GOT fans would drop entire paychecks on even if they don’t have a baby.
