Amy Schumer wasn’t always famous. Before presenting at the Golden Globes with her A-list BFF Jennifer Lawrence or writing and starring in both a successful television series and major motion picture, the funny blonde was a relatively unknown comedian making an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s late night cable show. During her October 2011 appearance, the Trainwreck actress—who would never ever steal jokes—won the audience over with her self-deprecating and offensive-but-in-a-funny-way humor.

It’s clear from the clip that even as an up-and-coming comic, she never shied away from sensitive jokes. "I’m actually celebrating something tonight. I finally just slept with my high school crush," she said before adding, "But now he expects me to go to his graduation?" Love her or hate her, you have to  admit that she has brass.

The rest of the bit covers more releasable situations to women like finding out her close friend is pregnant while she remains childless by choice or dating an ugly guy because he’s rich. She even hit on the sensitive topic of race with a joke about her "many black friend." No, that’s not a typo.

Catch a slightly younger Schumer in action in the above clip and see how she’s changed since breaking through to mainstream audiences.
