You should have less than one beer a day. Oh, and it also gives you cancer.

You drink too much. No sweat man, we all do. It’s cool, yo. You probably shouldn’t have that fifth rum and coke on Friday night, or those extra beers watching the football, but whatever. A drink or two every now and then won’t hurt you, yeah?

Only now, the government is saying there is no such thing as a safe level of drinking. The UK's chief medical officers say that new research indicates that drinking any alcohol at all increases the risk of cancer. They’ve also cut the recommended drinking limits to no more than 14 units a week—which is six pints of beer or seven glasses of wine. So that means they say you should have less than one beer per day.

And before you think about being sneaky, they also point out that no, it’s not ok to “save up” your weekly allowance, not drinking all week so you can have a big one and get waved on a Saturday.

Happy 2016 everyone!
