Northern Territory police have released amazing vision of a car owner pulling off an amazing Hollywood maneuver to stop a car theft.

The closed-circuit footage shows the car owner walking into the service station to pay after filling up his car. As he turns his back, a shadowy figure emerges and attempts to steal the ride. The mysterious car owner's Spidey senses seem to have been tingling, as he turns, races toward the car and leaps into the passenger-side window feet-first.

He doesn't quite land the move on his first attempt, but climbs in soon after, spooking the driver. The would-be thief is then seen running away.

The attempted robbery occurred in November, but NT police have just released the footage in an attempt to locate 24 year-old Timothy Slater, who they believe is the other man in the video.

"Timothy is described as being of Indigenous appearance, 170 centimetres tall and of medium build with black hair," Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.

"Police urge members of the public to not approach Timothy, but to report all information to them."
