Cineworld put on a special ‘secret’ screening last night for their Unlimted Card members, showing a preview of a secret new film. It wasn’t Star Wars: The Force Awakens, because there’s no way Disney would let them show the biggest film of the century a day before the premiere.

The explicitly stated it wouldn’t be Star Wars

ICYMI: There's a #SecretUnlimitedScreening on Dec 15th! https://t.co/a8AAgOUR4U P.S. it's not Star Wars pic.twitter.com/SFBPFORBHe

@rickynowe We just know that the film is not set in a galaxy far far away! Have a great birthday Nicky!

That didn’t stop loads of people turning up think it would be Star Wars

Praying this secret screening at cineworld tonight is Star Wars🙏🏻

@cineworld what to do when a film is bombing? oh yeah, trick people to see it by making them think its star wars. #cineworldsecretscreening

Totally fell for your secret screening @cineworld 😩Thought I was seeing #starwars not #HeartOfTheSea 😢Still it was pretty good. Not cool 😠

Go to the #CineworldUnlimitedScreening and it turns out to be in the heart of the sea not start wars... yeah, i'm out.

It was actually Heart Of The Sea, the new Chris Hemsworth/ Ron Howard joint, a period epic about whale hunting. It’s pretty good, by all accounts. But it’s not Star Wars

The collective groan of disappointed Star wars fans was quite memorable. #SecretUnlimitedScreening

@cineworld #SecretUnlimitedScreening enjoyed the film, amazing how many people expected Star wars and walked out though

And people were pissed.

Props to Nathanael Smith for noticing all this on Twitter.
