Woman Posts Winning Ticket to Facebook, Gets Her Money Stolen

An Australian woman posted her winning horse racing ticket to Facebook, allowing a thief to steal her winnings.

Do you trust every one of your Facebook friends? An Australian woman found out the hard way that she shouldn't have, after someone used a photo she posted to steal her money

The woman, identified only as Chantelle from Perth by hosts on the Australian radio station Triple M, bet $20 dollars on a total longshot in the Melbourne Cup horse race. Against the odds, Prince of Penzance won, leaving Chantelle with a ticket worth $825.

She was really excited (you can tell by how incredibly open her mouth is). So she posted a photo to Facebook holding up the winning ticket. Unfortunately, the barcode was visible, which allowed someone to use it at an automated machine to claim her money for themselves, Chantelle told radio hosts.

Or, as the Australian radio DJ put it so much better, "Chantelle from Perth hit some money on the gee-gees and was so rapt with her win she showed her ticket, posted it up on Facey, and somebody scanned the barcode and went and got her collect."

Chantelle responded to the thief on Facebook:

“To the low life who is obviously my friend on Facebook and used my photo to claim our winnings. You’re a massive d***. You ruined my day,” she wrote on her page.

So just remember, don't post your tickets on Facebook. That goes for concert tickets too.
