People may not want to talk about sex toys, but they’re certainly buying them. So much so that the industry raked in a whopping $15 billion worldwide in 2011. Americans alone spend roughly $1.3 billion on their adults-only playthings—double the market value of condoms. But with so many people buying, where exactly are they buying them?

According to Fusion, people in California really love their sex toys. The Golden State makes up about 29% of total transactions for Jimmyjane, a leading seller in the adult toy industry, throughout the United States. New York ranks in second, with Texas not far behind. All three are considered densely populated areas, so it’s not surprising that they make up the top three.

Broken down even further, Fusion ranked the leading cities with the most purchases and found that San Francisco received top honors for California with 42.75% of the state’s total sales. In New York, the people of New York City dominated transactions with 70.01% compared to others. For Texas, people in Houston bought the most sex toys with 21.60% of total sales in the state.

The information is based on total transactions in the U.S. from Jan. 1 to Sept. 14 of this year. Head here for a more in depth look at the numbers.
