Communities in Chicago and abroad were stunned when 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee’s body was found in an alleyway near his grandmother’s house on Nov. 2. He was on his way to the park to play basketball when an unknown assailant lured him into the tight space and shot him in the face and back. Now, it’s being reported that a suspect was arrested in connection with the brutal case.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmitweeted the news, but didn’t name a suspect. However, according to the New York Daily News, 27-year-old Corey Morgan was taken into custody and questioned before being released without charges.

Chicago Police detectives have made an arrest in the unspeakable murder of 9 year old Tyshawn Lee. Press announcement later this morning.

Authorities say Lee’s death stemmed from a rivalry between two gangs—one of which his father was connected to. Chicago police Superintendent Gerry McCarthy called it "probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime that I've witnessed in 35 years of policing." He went on to say that Lee was specifically targeted because of his familial ties to a gang and that he was “not a bystander.”

The situation is still being investigated.
