A 7-year-old girl featured on the documentary series Born in the Wrong Body: My Transgender Kid shows an amazing amount of awareness for a child her age – not only of herself and who she is, but also for what she expects from the world around her.
Paddy's explanation of her own gender identity is simple, clear, definite and perfect in the way that only a child's thinking could be, but maybe it will help some adults to understand too.
In her own words:
"I suppose you going from girl to boy is very much like you going from 7 to 8, you'll still be you and you'll still be the same," says Paddy's father (who by the way seems like a super loving and accepting dad).
It's literally that simple.
