One man ended a police chase in a more ridiculous fashion than the Australian man who drove into the ocean, this man blamed a Manatee County, Fla. police chase on his dog.

The tall tail tale began after police tried to pull over 26-year-old Reliford Cooper III for speeding on Wednesday at around 7:45 p.m.. According to a police report The Smoking Gun got, Cooper kept going, running a stop sign before finally crashing into a house. He then began to flee on foot, trying to hide out in a church, but was chased away by church attendees. When authorities eventually caught Cooper he reportedly told them, “I wasn’t driving that car…My dog was driving that car.”

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Dave Bristow, told The Huffington Post there was no dog found in Cooper’s car, which makes sense when we learn that Cooper reeked of alcohol and “burnt marijuana” according to the deputy who arrested him.
