Donald Trump really, really wants to be BFFs with Kanye West. In a rapid-fire round of questions near the end of his The Tonight Show appearance last night, Jimmy Fallon asked Trump what he thinks about Kanye as a presidential candidate in 2020. Predictably, Trump didn't exactly answer the question, but instead told everyone how close he and West are:
Kanye has been so nice to me, he always says great things about me, so I love Kanye.
In an awkwardly backhanded compliment, he also said that Kanye is "a much better person than most people think." Of course, when it comes to the 2020 elections, Trump did say that he'd demolish West if they were to run against each other. But it's fine, he'd totally understand, because they're such good friends. That's sweet and all, but Trump should know that Kanye has already endorsed his chosen 2016 candidate via Instagram selfie.
Another noteworthy Trump answer came when Fallon went off script to ask him if he'd ever apologized in his life. "Think back to when you were little Donnie Trump," he said. "Did you ever apologize?" Trump's answer, of course, is a resounding no. Why would he? He has nothing to apologize for.
I fully think apologizing is a great thing, but you have to be wrong. I will absolutely apologize sometime in the hopefully distant future if I’m ever wrong.
Yes, infallible Donald, tell us more about how right you are when it comes to Black Lives Matter, birthright citizenship, and the treatment of women. And while you're at it, please tell us how great and huge and classy your wall at the Mexico border will be.
Fallon also had a suggestion for Trump's theme song. At the end of the interview, he played DJ Khalled’s "All I Do Is Win" and danced around behind his desk—Trump, for his part, looked less enthusiastic. But Trump did say, in reference to the song's chorus, that "it happens to be 100 percent true." Maybe Trump can use the song as pump-up music as he prepares for his interview on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Sept. 22. Given that Colbert spent his first night on CBS making fun of Trump, Trump will need all the help he can get.
