AMC has wisely ordered Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Preacher to series, committing to an initial run of ten episodes including the previously announced pilot. The comic book adaptation pulls from the Vertigo comic book series of the same name, a delightfully controversial story of a possessed Texas pastor on a literal search for God. For additional televised joy, the series also employs the character name "Arseface."
"Every once in a while you find a project where all the elements line up beautifully," AMC executive Joel Stillerman told the Hollywood Reporter in 2014 upon the announcement of Preacher's initial pilot order. "With Preacher, it starts with a bold, compelling, and thought-provoking comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and a whole lot of fans who already know Jesse Custer, Cassidy, and Tulip. Add to that the passionate and talented Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad)...and we have everything we need to be very excited to move forward on Preacher.”
The series stars Dominic Cooper (Jesse Custer), Joseph Gilgun (Cassidy), Ruth Negga (Tulip), and Ian Colletti (Arseface), with direction from the highly compatible This Is the End duo of Rogen and Goldberg. Though Rogen's tweet appears to have confirmed a May 2016 debut for Preacher, AMC hasn't released an official statement on the series order.
