'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' Reboot Will Have Less Ordinary Men, More Extraordinary Women

Admitting that the 2003 Sean Connery attempt wasn't very good, producer John Davis cites 'Mad Max: Fury Road' as an inspiration moving forward.

Though the 2003 attempt at giving the cinematic treatment to the Alan Moore / Kevin O'Neill comic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is largely regarded as a full-on misfire (case in point: the Sean Connery-aided adaptation currently stands at 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), plans to reboot are (of course!) currently in order.

Earlier this year, Collider revealed that 20th Century Fox was planning the project, likely in the wake of the current plethora of reboots dominating the box office. During a recent TCA event, Collider caught up with producer John Davis to mine for details on the project. Davis, obviously, very much delivered. When asked how Fox planned to avoid the mistakes of the 2003 iteration, Davis referenced one of 2015's finest examples of a worthy reboot:

"Just by going back to the roots and making it authentic to what the fan base was really excited about. It’s female-centric, which I think is interesting. I love female characters, point-of-view characters in action movies. I thought Mad Max was great. I think you can always find a fresh way of doing something and going back to the basics. What is that people love? What is it that made them love the property in the first place?"

As noted by multiple outlets, the original Moore / O'Neill series isn't exactly stacked with prominent female characters, meaning some reboot-specific characters will likely be added ahead of development. Regardless, this revelation is an exciting addition to the recent batch of decidedly female-led blockbusters including Mad Max: Fury Road, referenced by Davis in his outline of the Gentlemen reboot, and the forthcoming Ghostbusters.
