This past weekend, the Indian government blocked857 pornographic websites because they violate "morality and decency," going against their Supreme Court's decision. And it looks like anti-porn crusader Kamlesh Vaswani is to blame. Vaswani filed a petition to India's Supreme Court some weeks ago that the court shut down. In that petition the activist had a very creative paragraph explaining how truly dangerous pornography can be. He stated:
Nothing can more efficiently destroy a person, fizzle their mind, evaporate their future, eliminate their potential or destroy society like pornography. It is so terrible that many do not even recognize it until it is too late, and most refuse to admit it. It is worse than Hitler, worse than AIDS, cancer or any other epidemic. It is more catastrophic than nuclear holocaust, and it must be stopped.
I guess going blind isn't really that big of a deal when you look at the grand scheme of things. Also, how can porn be worse than AIDS? Watching porn is the safest sex one can have. Vaswani is elated by the government's decision to not listen to their highest court, telling the Hindustan Times in a phone interview:
"I’m extremely happy that [Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's] government has finally decided to take action against online pornography considering the Supreme Court’s observations. The ban is definitely a step towards protecting the country’s women and children."
He blames porn for the unfathomable sexual violence that has plagued India in recent years. Let's see if the ban on porn works. Really can't blame them for trying no matter how ridiculous Vaswani's "Hitler" statement is.
