Florida Mom Defended Her Daughter by Chasing Boy With Scissors

A Florida mom saw a boy fighting with her daughter and responded by chasing him with scissors.

A Florida woman saw her daughter getting into a playground altercation with a boy (as fifth graders are wont to do), and allegedly chose to respond by chasing the boy with a pair of scissors. Or it might have been a knife—by-standers told police that they saw Shakella Quinn pick up a knife and chase the boy around a parking lot, but when officers approached Quinn, she was holding scissors with "an aggressive and threatening grip." Quinn denies ever picking up the knife, according to police reports

In either case, Boca Raton police officers arrested Quinn, 27, and charged her with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and violating her probation. When officers handcuffed her—which were "checked for tightness," according to their report—Quinn kicked and resisted, yelling "I ain't going to jail." The police report states that after she continued to "make every effort" to remove herself from the police, they "placed [her] in 'The Wrap' to ensure the safety of BRPD officers."

The mother of the boy in question told police that she saw Quinn pursuing her son and yelled at her to stop, at which point her son ran into her apartment. Wright then called the police on Quinn. Her son declined to speak to the police, according to their report.
