Depending on your affection for the decade's current retroactive stronghold on American pop culture, the 90s are the either gift that keeps on generously giving (one reboot or nostalgia tour at a time) or an awful, violent disease no doctor on the planet knows how to adequately battle. No matter how you feel about it, your favorite masters of subtle style choices — the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers — are eyeing a 2017 release date for the Lionsgate-backed reboot of the Saban Entertainment mega-classic.

The project seemed troubled when Lionsgate moved the film's release back from its originally announced 2016 arrival, though recently-attached director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is eager to assure everyone there is simply nothing to worry on. In a new interview with IGN, Israelite praised the film's script — helmed by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class). "[I] was really surprised by it," Israelite tells IGN, "and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material."

Israelite also says that we should hear some casting news "in the next few months," meaning we'll be able to see if anyone over at Lionsgate paid any attention whatsoever to our own studious suggestions.
