A man was killed in Boston on Tuesday after being shot by police outside a local drugstore, later identified as Usaamah Rahim — just 26 years old. According to police, Rahim was approached by the officers without weapons drawn. However, officers reportedly feared for their collective survival after Rahim advanced on officers while armed with a large knife.  The shooting is currently under investigation.

Shortly after the shooting, Rahim's brother — Ibraham Rahim, a prominent figure in the local Islamic community — posted his own account of the tragic incident on Facebook. According to Rahim, his brother was talking to their father on the phone while waiting for his bus to work when he was "confronted by three Boston police officers and subsequently shot in the back three times."

Apparently, the officers involved in the shooting were working in tandem with the Joint Terrorism Task Force — who had Rahim under 24-hour surveillance for currently unspecified reasons. Video of the shooting reportedly exists, though its public release is still pending. Additionally, arrests have reportedly been made since the shooting.
