Robert Rodriguez to Direct Live-Action 'Jonny Quest' For Warner Bros.

The 'From Dusk Till Dawn' creator will co-writer and direct the big screen adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera classic.

Though the original 1964 Hanna-Barbera Jonny Quest series only ran for one year, its appreciation has only increased in the decades since. Revived in the '80s as The New Adventures of Jonny Quest and again in the '90s as The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, the animated stories of an adventure-prone young boy retained their charm as breezy slices of mildly action-packed science fiction.

A proper film adaptation has been in development since at least the early '90s, though Warner Bros. recent announcement of From Dusk Till Dawn mastermind Robert Rodriguez signing on to direct is a clear sign of finally taking the task seriously. According to Variety, Rodriguez will co-write the script with Pirates of the Caribbean alum Terry Rossio — a fitting pair given Rodriguez's success with the equally kid-friendly Spy Kids series.
