The NYPD has shot the man allegedly responsible for yesterday's Manhattan hammer attacks, the New York Post reports. Two officers approached David Baril this morning after recognizing him from pictures released by the NYPD. He was shot after he pulled out a hammer and tried to attack one of the officers. His condition is unknown, but CBS2 reports one of the officers went to the hospital with a a ringing ear.

Baril allegedly attacked four random pedestrians yesterday in a span of six hours. Police say he hit three people over the head with a hammer and another with his fist. Using facial-recognition technology, the NYPD was able to identify the attacker as Baril. He's been arrested eight times before, including an incident in which he jumped over the counter at a KFC to punch an employee.
