Reports have been flooding in about giant jellyfish - who normally lurk in the deep blue unknown - heading closer to shore and surrounding swimmers on the English coastline. The floating-membrane like creatures have been terrifying/grossing-out swimmers surprised by the their sudden appearance in large droves. At their biggest, they can weigh up to 100lbs and although they appear larger in these pictures (light distorts in water and can affect depth and scale of images), they are known to match the size of an adult man.

Scientists believe the unprecedented invasion could be due to warm weather and overfishing leaving fewer predators to eat the beasts while they are young and smaller. The obvious question is 'will we have to fight them? and will this be the battle of all ages?' but luckily these particular jellyfish (barrel jellyfish) are relatively harmless to humans. Wouldn't fancy sampling their sting though...
