TMZ reports that Kris Jenner has started the paperwork to trademark the word "momager," a compound word signifying one who is both a mom and a manager.
Like her daughter Kylie who is trying to trademark her first name, if she trademarks this word, Kris would be able to sue anyone who uses the title without her permission. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, where celebrities try to assert their dominance not just through clothing lines and video games, but also through the very language we speak.
TMZ notes that it's likely that the trademark will go through, "because Kris has already locked down trademarks for the term 'momage' for personal management services and for use in her reality show."
But aren't we forgetting something? Like the fact that momagers have a long and rich history, like Tina Knowles coming on as the manager of Destiny's Child in 2011, before she eventually became Beyonce's right-hand woman? What about Dina Lohan—does she count as a momager even though she largely admits Lindsay should take care of her own damn self? Does any of that matter? We would like linguists and pop culture historians to weigh in on this matter as soon as possible, please.
