Looks like you'll be waiting even longer to see Eddie Murphy return to the screen as what's arguably his signature film character. The Wrap reports that Beverly Hills Cop 4, starring Murphy as fish-out-of-water Detroit cop Axel Foley, won't be coming out in March 2016 as was previously announced.

The movie, which is still being made with director Brett Ratner, has reportedly been scratched from Paramount Pictures' release schedule for now, and there's no word on when it will be rescheduled. Speculation is that part of the reason for the delay is competition with Batman v. Superman, which comes out on March 25, and Paramount's own Monster Trucks, which gets released the weekend before.

Previous delays were blamed on Murphy's own insistence that the script was perfect. In January he told Rolling Stone "I’ve read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I’m not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right."

The SNL 40 letdown aside, a lot of people have pinned their hopes on this movie being Murphy's big return to comedic form (by having him literally return to a comedic role we know he was funny in).

Now if we can only get everyone to start listening to Murphy's reggae track, maybe he'll do some more stand-up too.
