Police Apprehend Accused Bank Robber's Who Escaped from Virginia Hospital After Stealing Guard's Gun

The manhunt for a prisoner who fled a Virginia hospital during a transfer early this morning has ended after police apprehended him in Washington, D.C.

According to CNN, 42-year-old Wossen Assaye managed to overpower two security guards at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Va. this morning. During his escape, he reportedly stole one of their firearms. The Washington Post reports that Assaye was arrested last week on federal bank robbery charges, and was hospitalized after attempting to injure himself. 

The Post reports that, around 7 a.m. this morning, Assaye car-jacked a woman near Annandale, Va. After stealing another vehicle, he was arrested my Metropolitan Police in Southeast D.C. around noon. 

CNN adds that Assaye earned the name the "bicycle bandit," as authorities say he employed this method of escape following the robberies.
