Sci-Fi legends Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman share their excitement about working with the genre's new master, Neill Blomkamp.

When Neill Blomkamp burst onto the scene in 2009 with District 9, it was immediately clear that this guy was no joke. Working with a cast of complete unknowns, Blomkamp “changed the genre of Science Fiction” according to one of the stars of his newest film, CHAPPiE—Hugh Jackman.

“He talks like he’s a newcomer,” Jackman says of his newest director and collaborator, “but he made such a splash with District 9.

Since Jackman credits Blomkamp with forever changing Sci-Fi, it seems only fair then that, for his newest film, Blomkamp gets to team with some true icons of the genre. That includes not only Mr. Jackman, but also Sigourney Weaver, whose performance as Ellen Ripley in the Alien series has made her the reigning Sci-Fi queen for the past three decades.

“He’s one of those masterminds,” Ms. Weaver says of Blomkamp, who she adds is comfortable not only with the technical aspects of a Sci-Fi film, but actually communicating with actors too.

And while Mr. Jackman has already mastered the art of wielding thick sideburns and Adamantium claws, Blomkamp has provided him with a fresh challenge for his role in CHAPPiE. “He’s A-type, alpha male,” Jackman says of his character, “with the wickedest mullet haircut ever to be seen on film.” That alone seems reason enough to buy a ticket.

To hear more from the Sci-Fi icons of CHAPPiE, in theaters March 6th, be sure to check out the behind-the-scenes featurette below.
