Ferguson Mayor Thinks the Department of Justice Focused Too Much on Race in Its Report

This is too dumb.

Earlier this month the Department of Justice released an alarming but unsurprising report about the system-wide racism plaguing the City of Ferguson. Numerous city officials have since lost their jobs, including two police officers, a judge, the city manager, and the chief of police. But somehow Ferguson Mayor James Knowles thinks the DOJ report was too focused on race.

"Regardless of the merits of a lot of the things that happened in the report, I think it's unfortunate that the Department of Justice always tried to narrow it down to race," Knowles told the Huffington Post. "I think there are things in the report that were a miscarriage of justice, but every instance in the report they tried to make it about race. I don’t think that’s fair."

Regardless, really? How much racist shit would have had to be uncovered for Knowles to realize why race was the focus of the report? Knowles tried to defend his point by pointing out that black officers were also involved in misconduct. Apparently he's unaware that someone can be prejudiced against their own people. He added, "There are issues that need to be addressed and we need to address those issues, but I don’t think that in our case you can bring this down to the issue is about race."

That's actually exactly what you can do. But this is the same dude who doesn't believe there's a racial divide in his city. We don't expect him to get it.
