There are multiple reports that the man piloting a small plane that crashed on a golf course near Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon is actor Harrison Ford

Local Los Angeles news station KTLA reports that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and the pilot was taken to the hospital. Fire department officials have not released the identity of the pilot yet but did tell reporters that the man was around 70 years old.

Ford reportedly was conscious and breathing as two doctors who were apparently golfing nearby aided him at the scene before rescue workers arrived.

Although initial reports described the pilot in "critical" condition, he was being treated at the hospital for "fair to moderate injury," according to a later Los Angeles Fire Department news release.

Two doctors were apparently golfing nearby and aided Ford at the scene. An FAA official told NBC Los Angeles that the crash happened shortly after the plane took off from the nearby Santa Monica airport.

The 72-year-old Star Wars actor is a longtime pilot who flies and owns a variety of aircraft, including jets and helicopters. It wouldn't be Ford's first mishap in the air. In 1999 he crash-landed a helicopter on a riverbed in Santa Clarita, California, but was not injured.

TMZ, which was first to report that Ford was involved in the crash, described the single-engine plane as a "vintage 2-seater fighter plane."

UPDATE: Harrison Ford's son, Ben Ford, appears to have tweeted that his father is doing OK.
