EGX Rezzed: The Indie Games You Need to Check Out

Devolver has given us some treats this year, Hotline Miami 2 was only last week. Not a Hero looks set to be another winner. Take the reigns as a selection of characters working for BunnyLord, the rabbit mayor looking to get reelected. The plan is to clean up the city, one criminal bloodbath at a time, so voters will notice a drop in crime under BunnyLord's watch. As BunnyLord himself says "from acorns come mighty oak trees, which have guns and are totally badass." Funny, fun and bloody.

"In 2113 the human race began its first extra solar colonisation program" and they picked Maia, a planet with few redeeming features but a host of minerals to mine. Keep your colonists alive by protecting them from angry alien species and making sure the lights stay on. They'll tell you if they're unhappy anyway, usually through odd poems.

Maia has a fantastical surreal side to it that we're looking forward to playing with, along with solid god game mechanics. Out now on Steam Early Access.

In Cypress Knee, Florida, a has-been Hollywood star by the name of Tag Kern is found hanging from a roadside sign. Enter Romana Teague, reporter, who happens to be passing by. 

Knee Deep takes the backwater confusion of Florida swamp towns, mixes it with a mystery and sets it up on a theatre stage–each setting taking up a different corner and folding out to become the background. It's weird and wonderful. Self-described as "a swamp noire in three acts", the first act is out this summer, with Act II and Act III coming a few months after.

Written by a former journalist, the game takes on issues of spinning stories and making audiences while keeping to its noire ascetic and swampy home. You can pre-order the season pass now (for $5 cheaper than when it's out).

Are you ready for a lot of physics puns? Then enter the particle zoo, which is going crazy–all the different sub-atomic particles are loose. Platform away as Schrodinger's Cat, both alive and dead, and able to pick up different adorable quarks to mold and shoot your way through the game. Excellent platforming fun with quarky twists and physics galore. 

Already out, it's the game that challenges you to "think inside the box".

Simple and hilarious. Take the role of a strange jelly man and beat the shit out of other jelly things. Bring in some friends and you've got hours of strange wobbly fun. Finish off your opponents by dropping them into fire or the sea or essentially anywhere they can't come back from–but keep those jelly punches rolling.
