The 87th Academy Awards are in the books, and despite a few briefcase-related blunders, the ceremony was a relatively pleasant affair. However, behind the smiling faces of Hollywood’s honored stars, there was great controversy surrounding this year’s nominations for their severe lack of representation of both women and African-Americans (or, in one particular case, both). So, on Monday’s episode of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Larry took a look at just how white these Oscars were.

In some regards, they were pretty damn white (and male). But, as Larry highlights, this year’s ceremony did celebrate diversity in other ways. Rousing speeches from Oscar winners Common and John Legend, Patricia Arquette, and screenwriter Graham Moore addressed topics ranging from race relations in America to gender equality and equal pay for women to embracing and respecting sexual and gender identities. Not only that, but ten Latinos were nominated in major categories, and won awards including Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture. Not too shabby.

But of course, all of this was secondary to Larry, who was fixated on one revelation in particular—that Common’s real name is…wait for it…Lonnie Lynn.

No, seriously. It is.
