If the Ferguson, Missouri police department doesn't make changes on its own, the U.S. Justice Department is prepared to file a lawsuit to force them to change, CNN is reporting

The suit would be over a pattern of discriminatory tactics used by Ferguson officers, the extent of which the Justice Department is expected to reveal in an upcoming report based on its ongoing investigation of the Ferguson PD and the shooting of Michael Brown.

According to a CNN source, among the accusations posed in the lawsuit would be that officers "targeted minorities with minor traffic infractions and then jailed them when they couldn't pay fines."

The Justice Department's Ferguson probe could still technically lead to federal charges against Darren Wilson, the former Ferguson officer who was not indicted in the shooting of 18-year-old Brown last year, although nobody is expecting Wilson to face charges when the Justice Department report comes out.
