Discontinued iPod Classics Are Being Sold for Hundreds of Pounds on eBay

The design icon is seeing a huge surge in demand.

The iPod Classic may have been retired this October, but it looks like demand is still high for the iconic music player. The item has become something of a hot property in the run up to Christmas, with over 3,000 having been sold on eBay since the product's retirement, and some going for prices as high as $800.

One particularly enthusiastic seller tried to list a 160GB iPod for a "Buy It Now" price for $1,000, but no one has taken the bait as yet (the seller has since relisted the item). On Amazon UK, 160GB versions of the iPod Classic are selling for new prices between £412-£550 ($648-$864), which is more than three times their usual worth.

This one's available for $1,000 'Buy It Now'.

If this keeps up, it seems Apple might want to rethink its policy on letting the iPod Classic go given the current surge in demand for this design icon.
