Michael Brown's parents continue to defend their son following Darren Wilson's first television interview. A grand jury elected not to indict Wilson for killing Brown on Monday night. The following day, Wilson told ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he had a "clear conscience" following his actions.
Speaking with PBS' Charlie Rose yesterday, Brown's mother, Leslie McSpadden, said she believed her son followed Wilson's instructions:
My son was running for his life, and as his father has said before, he’s had a conversation with him about how to deal with the authorities if you’re approached. Which is to obey, basically. If they ask you to do something you have to do it. I believe that [Wilson] asked my son to stop and I believe that’s what he did. He stopped, and he turned around to get down on his knees like the officer asked him. I believe he was shot close up, and I don't believe my son was lunging at him in any kind of way.
