Despite the myriad allegations of sexual assault that have come up against him of late, Bill Cosby his insisted on maintaining complete silence. Like, literally, silence. The guy won’t even say “no comment.”
As it turns out, there has probably been a reason for all this.
The Associated Press has released video footage of an interview with Cosby that took place about two weeks after Hannibal Buress’ comments brought the years of accusations against Cosby back into the limelight. The interaction—which takes place with Cosby’s wife sitting right next to him—is wildly uncomfortable and awkward, as you might expect.
“There's no response, there is no comment about that,” Cosby said when asked about Buress and his accusations. “And I’ll tell you why. I don’t want to compromise your integrity, but I don’t talk about it.”
Cosby went on to repeatedly insist that they strike the question from the interview, and even demanded that they get in touch with the interviewer’s boss to make it happen. “I think if you want to consider yourself to be serious that it will not appear anywhere," he said, then taking a shot at the AP added that “If you will just tell your bosses the reason why we didn't say that up front was because we thought that AP had the integrity to not ask.”
The whole notion of “integrity” is an interesting card for Cosby to play here, to say the least. While he has not been found guilty of anything, he also has not denied any of the accusations except for one strong condemnation of Janice Dickinson through his attorney.
