Authorities in New York say a man who just completed a 15-year prison term was shot 15 minutes after his release.

The New York Post reports that the 33-year-old victim exited Otisville State Prison just before 10 a.m. yesterday. He was given a train ticket to Manhattan where he was supposed to stay at a halfway house, but instead accepted a ride from someone driving a white Hyundai.

According to the Post, the driver pulled over after traveling two miles and a gunman jumped out of the vehicle's trunk, firing two shots at the passenger. The man was somehow able to make it to the Otisville's Metro-North train station, where employees got him medical attention.

Citing sources, the Post says that the man was able to identify the gunman, explaining that the shooting was retaliation for snitching on him.

The victim is said to be in stable condition at Westchster Medical Center.
