After his condition deteriorated over the weekend, the Dallas Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan has died, according to the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Duncan passed away on Wednesday morning.

Two days earlier, Dr. Thomas R. Frieden told the Washington Post that Duncan was "fighting for his life," adding that his situation had taken a turn for the worse. He had been in critical condition since Sunday.

Duncan was a Liberian citizen who traveled to the United States recently, and was hospitalized after exhibiting Ebola-like symptoms. He was briefly released from the hospital before returning two days later and receiving an official diagnosis. If Duncan had survived the illness, it's likely he would have faced legal action from the Liberian government for providing false information—red flags in terms of the Ebola outbreak—on an exit visa.
