Channing Tatum said doing "23 Jump Street" would be a "cop-out."

Last month we found out Sony already has the ball rolling on 23 Jump Street, but it looks like the studio already has its first obstacle. Channing Tatum isn't sold on the idea of doing a threequel.

"I feel like that would be a cop-out," Tatum said in an interview with USA Today. "College was the obvious next step for us. We had to go there. I don’t know what the next step is after college. Do we go and take down Enron? Or the government in D.C.? I feel like it’s all redundant."

Didn't he see the end credits? There are so many options. There's medical school, studying abroad, and culinary school, just to name a few. All of those sound far more entertaining that taking down Enron.

In all seriousness, Tatum is probably right. 22 Jump Street was great because it pointed out the absurdity of sequels. There's no way to do the same thing with a threequel without repeating the joke, and thus becoming what the movie made fun of. These days movie series are stretched way too thin, so it would be great to finally see one retire before going into Washington Wizard Michael Jordan territory.
