Last night's "Boardwalk Empire" felt eerily familiar.

Welp. The great Michael K. Williams has now died two gangster deaths on two critically acclaimed HBO series. Which was the better performance, the cooler badass? Pioneer Prohibition-era gangster Albert "Chalky" White on Boardwalk Empire, or Omar Little, The Wire's Baltimore outlaw with a code?

The debate may rage on forever (and anybody who debates Chalky's cool points has clearly never seen his "bookcase" speech). One thing is certain, though: both men, despite digging their graves deeper and deeper over each show's five-season run, made enough of an impact to make us shed thug tears when they met their demise, inevitability notwithstanding.

We couldn't have been the only viewers who had shivering flashbacks to Omar's ill-fated bodega pit-stop as Chalky stood before the firing squad in last night's stellar Boardwalk Empire episode, "Devil You Know," imagining his lover's beautiful voice in his head as the bullets came at him. It's all in the game and "ain't nobody ever been free." All right, then.
