The NYPD arrested a man in connection with an attack that left a 3-year-old girl dead and her 5-year-old brother injured yesterday.
The Associated Press reports Jeida Torres was discovered unresponsive inside of a Brooklyn apartment yesterday afternoon, where her brother, Andrew, was found hiding. According to the New York Daily News, both children were covered in bruises. Jeida Torres transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she was declared dead. Andrew Torres is said to be in stable condition at the same hospital.
A source told the Daily News that Kelsey Smith, the boyfriend of the children's mother, attacked Torres because she soiled herself. The 20-year-old, who fled the scene, was later arrested at a relative's home and taken to Elmhurst Hospital after an apparent suicide attempt.
Charges against Smith are pending.
