At this point, it should be pretty obvious to everyone that Amanda Bynes is in need of serious, inpatient mental health counseling. After her latest run-ins with the law and outburst on Twitter, she’s going to get it whether she likes it or not.
After her parents’ conservatorship expired at the end of last month, the troubled actress has totally gone off the rails. This time, however, Bynes’ doctors will be the ones in control of her care. They’ll be seeking what is called an “LPS Hold” from a judge, which would allow the medical team to keep Bynes confined and medicated at a hospital (or other secure location) for up to a full year.
In order for the judge to approve an LPS Hold, the doctors must prove that Bynes is “gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder or impairment by chronic alcoholism.” If her recent behavior is any indication, it shouldn’t be too hard to do that.
Doctors will make the request as soon as Bynes’ full evaluation and diagnosis is complete, which should happen within a week. Let’s hope she finally gets the level of treatment she desperately needs.
